On being accepted into the Confraria, each member signs the Livro de Honra, receives their Tambuladeria and Diploma with the date of the Capitulo in which their candidacy was approved.
Tambuladeira
The Tambuladeira is the silver wine-tasting cup attached to a green and red striped ribbon worn around the neck by all Confrades indicating their membership of the Confraria do Vinho do Porto.
It is this historic tool which unites all Confrades no matter their rank.
This silver tasting cup was used by 17th century Port Shippers due its relatively flat and solid nature. This allowed for easy storage in a pocket or saddle bag as they travelled the Douro region in search of wines.
The uniquely shaped silver disk, with edge and centre in relief similar to the punt of a Vintage bottle, permits the taster to smell, taste and evaluate the viscosity and intensity of colour of the young Port Wine according to the light reflected by polished silver.
