Attire

The ceremonial attire of the Confrades, defined in the Usanças is inspired by the garments worn by the Infante D. Henrique in the 15th Century.

It consists of a garnet-coloured cape trimmed with black ribbon; a wide-brimmed black felt hat with a long black silk sash bound around the crown and falling over the left shoulder and around the neck; and a shield shaped badge of rank worn on the left side of the cape.

A Tambuladeira attached to a green and red striped ribbon is visibly worn around the neck and over all clothing.

When mandated by the Chancelaria or Capitulo the use of this attire is obligatory for the Confrades.

Chancelaria: Members of the Chancelaria are identified by a cream-colored silk sash on their wide brimmed felt hats.

Following their time in office, the sash is exchanged for one combing bands of black and cream-colored silk, indicating their past functions in the Chancelaria.
